NFL Urns for Ashes: A Guide for American Football Fans
For some people, football was never just a game. It was Sundays on the couch, Thanksgiving kickoffs, road trips to the stadium and a lifetime of arguing about the draft. When it comes time to choose an urn, many families want something that looks like the person they're remembering, not a generic vase.
Our NFL urns are made from a real American football in their team's colors, with the ashes held inside the ball itself. Here's how they work, which teams we make, and what to know before ordering from the USA.
Which teams do you make urns for?
- Dallas Cowboys urn
- Green Bay Packers urn
- Las Vegas Raiders urn
- Los Angeles Rams urn
- New Orleans Saints urn
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers urn
If their team isn't on the list, we can turn their own football into an urn, whether it's a signed ball, a game ball or the one they threw in the backyard. See our own ball urn, or browse every team in our NFL urns collection.
How is a football turned into an urn?
We hand-clean and reinforce a genuine American football, then use our patented resin-fill process to create a hard, sealed chamber inside it. The ashes are placed inside that chamber and closed in with a fitted bung. From the outside it still looks and feels like a real football, because it is one.
Will it hold all of the ashes?
Yes. Each full-size urn holds about 3.8 liters, which is enough for the full cremated remains of most adults. If you're unsure, the funeral home or crematorium can tell you the volume of the ashes they're returning.
Can it be engraved?
Every urn sits on a handmade timber display stand, and you can add engraving: up to four lines of 30 characters. Families usually choose a name and dates, a nickname, or a short line about their team. A clear display case is also available to keep the urn protected on a shelf or mantel.

Where do families keep a football urn?
Most keep it at home where they'll see it every day: on a bookshelf, in the den or next to the TV where the games were watched. Some bring it out on game day, to a tailgate or to a memorial watch party. Because the ashes are sealed inside, it's safe to display and handle.
Who makes them?
Identity Urns is a family business in Doonan, Queensland. Our founder Ali kept her dad's ashes in the wardrobe for ten years because no urn felt right for him, until her husband Greg made one from the lawn bowls he loved. Read how Identity Urns began.
Our urns are made from genuine American footballs in team colors. Not made, licensed or endorsed by the NFL or any team.
